About Dementia and Alzheimer's
All Flower Foundation Care centres cater for residents who have the onset of any Dementia related disease.
Our specialised Dementia and Alzheimer’s Care Centre – Waverley Gardens Memory Care – is set up to care for your loved ones living with the onset of the disease to the most advanced stages of Dementia. We provide 24-hour supervision and accommodate residents in either private or shared rooms. Our residents are overseen by our trusted, professional staff who are trained to manage their specialised condition and provide the best comfort and care.
The current reality is that more of our elderly are being diagnosed with Dementia, placing emotional and physical strain on families as the disease advances. Our home provides specialised care to those with most forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, Vascular, Parkinson-related and Korsakoff syndrome, among others. Our staff are trained and kept up to date with the latest developments around Dementia; and care techniques for elders with specialised needs. We take a holistic approach to the care of our residents, from meal preparation and feeding assistance, to on-call doctors, on-site dental and physiotherapy services, personal hygiene support, cognitive and emotional stimulation activities, as well as regular communal activities with residents and carers. We are also an affiliate member of Alzheimer’s South Africa
Symptoms of Dementia
- Progressive and frequent memory loss
- Confusion
- Personality and behaviour change
- Lethargy and withdrawal
- Loss of ability to perform everyday tasks
- Changes in language function
- The onset of these symptoms can vary from person to person. Some will start with memory loss, others with personality change, and some will undergo language changes where they cannot find the right words.
If you are caring for someone with Dementia, it is vital that you take a break to care for yourself to minimize care giver burnout. For this reason, WGMC offers temporary care which you can book if you need a break, or are going away, or just want to test the waters. Our Day care is a wonderful solution to giving you time to attend to tasks, and peace of mind that your loved is being cared for. Day care will include meals and activities.
